CAN-B Fit

After a work colleague of Reg and Samantha (co-founders of PBCF), was diagnosed with late-stage breast cancer as a young mother, they were struck by how critical access to wellbeing resources and support is for those facing cancer. This inspired the innovation of the CAN-B Fit Exercise Program.

What is a CAN-B Fit program?

These are 6-week subsidised, structured and safe exercise programs for women with breast cancer and men with prostate cancer. The objective of these prorgams is to help counteract some of the side effects of cancer treatment while rebuilding strength, mobility, confidence and connection, in a socially supportive and caring space.

The program consists of 6-weekly 1-hour sessions, led by an oncology-trained professional. Each session consists of a combination of muscle-strengthening, flexibility, mobility and cardiovascular exercises.

After each session, there's an opportunity to go for coffee as a group afterwards to give the participants a chance to share some common experiences and concerns with others who understand.

How much does the CAN-B Fit Program cost?

Thanks to PBCF donors, the total cost of the CAN-B Fit Program is just $104-114* for 6 weeks of tailored support. This includes:

  • 45-60 minute initial consultation with an Exercise Physiologist – $115-125 (less Medicare rebate of up to $61 with Treatment Care Plan from GP** unless you have exceeded your Medicare safety net then it’s 85% of the consult).
  • Six (6) weekly, one-hour group sessions – only $40 total
  • A personalised exercise plan designed around your health goals
  • Complimentary resistance bands, water bottle & trigger ball

*Prices vary depending on the clinic where you attend your program.
** Medicare rebates are available for up to five (5) allied-health services a year, on referral from your GP or specialist.

We understand that there are huge financial costs that come with a cancer diagnosis. Therefore, we reserve fully subsidised places for people who may not be able to afford it. Please reach out to us at support@pbcf.org.au to explore this option.
