ABOUT US

Who we are

Prostate and breast cancer are the two most common types of cancer in Australia. At PBCF our mission is to improve well-being and quality of life for cancer patients. Well-being is more than just physical health - it is how we feel and cope, and how we engage with others, and add meaning to our lives.

Research shows that patients who have their physical and emotional needs met report better health outcomes and greater life expectancy.

Through our Wellbeing Workshops and CAN-B Fit exercise program we are able to make a real impact on the lives of those affected by cancer.

Join us on our journey to transform the lives of those impacted by cancer. Together we can spark vital change, improve lives and pave the way for a brighter future.

Our history

The Prostate & Breast Cancer Foundation was established in 2010. Co-founders Samantha and Reg were inspired by a work colleague with a passion for sport & recreation and who as a young mother was diagnosed with late-stage breast cancer. Over her two-year course of treatment, they were struck by how critical access to wellbeing resources and social support is for those facing cancer.

SUPPORT: Today, the Foundation works to improve health outcomes through its innovative CAN-B Fit exercise program, with classes and support in exercise, nutrition and wellbeing helping to build strength, mobility, confidence and connection, in a socially supportive and caring space.

RESEARCH: Direct funding to advance innovative medical research is also crucial, and the focus here is in the development of 'biomarkers', for eary detection, and the development of 'targeted' treatments, to reduce side effects and limit the cancers growth & spread.

Research

By funding more research, the closer we will be to finding a cure.

By resourcing cutting-edge research facilities like St George Cancer Centre we help advance the early detection and treatment of cancer.

Research on 'biomarkers' will mean more effective, reliable tests for early detection. New personalised or 'targeted' treatments will lead to therapies with less side effects and limiting or stopping the growth & spread.

Awareness

By fostering a better understanding of the causes of cancer, we can help dispel many misconceptions and promote early detection.

By sharing research, hosting community events such as our Wellness Workshops and CAN-B Fit sessions, patients and carers are more able and empowered to take charge of their health, leading to improved health outcomes and well-being.

Learn More about CAN-B Fit

CAN-B Fit is a 6-week movement based program designed to support cancer patients during and any time after tretment.

Each week we discuss the beneficial impact movement has on cancer, followed by a group exercise session. Sessions are led by an fully qualified Exercise Physiologist, familiar with the needs of each individual.

All exercises are adapted to suit your needs and abilities. There is also an opportunity for a group coffee and chat after each session.
