Breast Cancer

Breast Cancer is the most common cancer in women, with 1 in 7 being diagnosed. While rare, men can also develop breast cancer, with 1 in 600 being diagnosed.
Some of the most common side effects of breast cancer treatment include fatigue, hair loss, nausea, bone loss, lymphoedema, cording, 'chemo brain', sleep disturbances, skin changes and changes to body type. The type and severity of side effects that one gets from breast cancer treatment depends on the type of treatment (i.e. surgery, chemotherapy, hormonal therapy or, radiation), the dose and duration of therapy and, individual factors e.g. age, genetics and, overall health.

Exercise is an important tool in the toolkit to counteract some of the side effects of treatment as well as reducing your risk of reoccurrence

  • Improves quality of life
  • Preserves muscle and bone mass
  • Reduces your risk of developing co-morbidities e.g. type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis, hypertension, cardiovascular disease
  • Improves your immune function which helps your body to fight tumour cells
  • Prevention of lymphoedema (via supervised resistance training)
